10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1901: Okay so in my opinion there are two reasonable openings for France, a many for Austria. Do you know what those two openings are and why you would pick one or the other?
10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1901: I know the main opening: Bre-ENG, Par-Pic, Mar-Bur but I do not not which opening it tends to compete with.
10 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1901: The weakness of my opening is if your fleet goes to GRE you then go on to reach TUN before me. I believe your move to VEN gives me more time to reach TUN.
10 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1901: The other French opening is Paris to burgundy and Marseilles to Piedmont. It is a huge gamble; if Austria doesn’t opening to Venice then France has a big advantage, but if Italy does then France is in trouble right away.

You have to do it sometimes as France to keep Austria “honest” in their openings.
10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: Ok, I see
10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: build F MAR rather than F BRE was the other option I had. Did my prob of winning just drop a few %s?
10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: No that’s an acceptable build here, that’s what I would build
10 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: Clarification
I would build fleet Brest.

However I would have built an army at Marseilles instead of Paris. Can you tell me why?
11 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: Couple of extra options perhaps. Moving to PIE to pin the fleet at VEN or getting a quick build from spain?
11 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1902: Yeah and the extra options interfere with my ability to find the right line of play.

From Paris I pretty much know you are moving that army to burgundy (and if you aren’t, then you’re playing sub-optimally somewhere in your move set)

From MAR, you can move to burgundy just the same if that is your plan. But I have to wonder if you are moving to piedmont. I might choose the wrong counter moves.

It is important for you to threaten to make many different possible moves so that I have lots of opportunity to make mistaken guesses.
11 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: Try to describe to me the guessing game we are playing if Germany. This is what I call a “zig-zag” guess.
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: great point on PAR vs MAR in this position
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: This position gets a bit confusing for me. You will move an Army to BER while MUN can block KIE or hold. If MUN holds I should move to KIE otherwise I should move with support to MUN.
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: Austrian armies in KIE and BER would be a game killer so thats what I will try and protect against
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: Good!!
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: You should have moved you fleet to Spain or WMS instead of Portugal
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: Interesting, because Spain sc is 2 away from TUN and POR is 3? Never considered that.
12 Jul 20 UTC Autumn, 1902: Correct!
13 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1903: I was tempted to build A MAR and tie up some of your resources around VEN but I thought a race to the Med was a higher priority this move.
13 Jul 20 UTC Spring, 1903: Hm. That might be okay, but let’s see how this plays out.
