24 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Holland]:My ready is in, but unless someone takes over Ank I'm not sure it matters.
24 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Holland]:Kudos to the survivors that are staying in the game, and to those that joined to help keep it going.
24 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Serbia]:It does, their orders are set to hold, until someone takes over.
24 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Serbia]:Perhaps I should cd and take over Ank ^^
24 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Ankara]:No need Serbia.
25 Feb 20 UTC Spring, 1912: [Liverpool]:Hey I would totally join this game a second time. But I joined as Liverpool and was promptly killed.
25 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Draw vote is in... Orders are readied.
25 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Constantinople,

It's been a long, fun (mostly) game, 5 of us are from the original 34 players, and that something of which to be proud. 4 of us took up the reins on a country that may not have been doing so well, and they did so certainly without real hopes of soloing the game. To keep a game going that way is an honorable thing.

It is obviously up to you. If you want to eliminate Serbia and London first that's your prerogative, but I'd submit to you that even if you do wait until Spring, lets put an end to this.

Your friend, Holland.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Constantinople]:Does everyone really want to draw? This game isn't even close to being over - I'd say Holland, myself, and even Naples have realistic (if unlikely) paths to a solo, and if we draw it's not clear at all who will survive. Drawing now seems premature to me
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Constantinople]:I guess this is why people like to play with anonymous draw votes
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:The 8 draw votes seem to indicate that everyone wants to draw.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Constantinople]:And a good portion of those eight have joined recently, only to immediately put up a draw vote. That sounds like an NMR with extra steps
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Constantinople]:When is the next time you're planning on playing a chaos game again? Don't you want to actually see what happens instead of ruining the game?
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:I'm planning on playing one as soon as it's available! I've already played like 4.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Serbia]:There is one up for joining currently.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Not sold on this variant.
The front end is too random.
The middle is just a normal game repeated over an over again in gradually increasing scale (so I'd never play non-anon).
Actually, I think that the end-game of Chaos would be the most interesting because the set-up would make it different each time, but it takes too long to get there, and I'd prefer there to be more balance in the powers at this point.
I guess (for me) the entertainment level pay-off doesn't warrant the time investment when compared to a standard game.

Variant idea, 7 player chaos rules game where non-adjacent dots are picked by the players one at a time.

Back to THIS game. Okay, we're doing this publicly now, which is fine.

My draw vote is in for Serbia. They deserve to be in this for never giving up and fighting even now to the end. If this year finishes up and Lon/Serbia are out then we can reevaluate if we want to play through the end-game.

Although my next 'threshold' is that I'd prefer if Berlin is in the draw. If Con doesn't give us that, then as much as I respect Naples I don't have much of a relationship with any of the others so wont do anything to insure they're in. That's where I stand, but I've been pretty transparent about it, if not my my press, then in my moves.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Quick add... I actually did care about Ankara before they left because I thought they were going to fight it out. It's possible this Ankara could fall under that too, but we haven't had that much time to find out.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Ankara]:Ankara would fight to the bitter end should the draw not go through.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Serbia]:I agree on your opinion on this variant, although the randomness of the beginning makes it interesting too. Plus it shows negotiation skills too. In classic games, most players pick from 2 or 3 openings, while chaos is much more open. Would be nice to play with 34 experienced and dedicated players. Although this is (was) my first game in this variant.

I appreciate your gesture, Holland. I would be glad with a draw in this situation of course, but I wouldn’t hold a grudge against anyone if it doesn’t. I totally understand Con’s view on this. It’s a pity that Ank fell out, and I had to be kicked out this way, but it is what is.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Hey, you made it... congrats.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:My retreats are readied.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:Maybe you should disband liv, so you can build perhaps F Lon, A Ber?
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:Whoops, should not have been global LMAO
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:I actually really enjoy this variant. I don't find the beginning "too random", I've played it many times now and I've never gotten picked off at the start.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Belgium]:What a surprise. Holland and Berlin still working together.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:Berlin, as usual you've re-convinced me that I should look at something differently. Once this is over and I see who you are I'll take a look your past Chaos games. If you really can get constancy of survival up-front then maybe it's worth the long game time.
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:So in my various gunboat chaos games I have been picked off at the start. I don't think it's possible to be consistent there.

However, in the 4 games of chaos I've played with some form of press, I have not been picked off at the start, and I've been a dominant player in every one (even if I ended up losing in the end, or getting whittled down a lot like in this game).
26 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Tunis]:The dynamics of a press game and a long phase is very different. The time to think gives you perception. I enjoy long games way more than the press ones.
27 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:Press games can be long
27 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Constantinople]:Sorry for not readying, I'm still home sick and would like to take the time on this turn + builds to be more recovered before getting back to the game. I owe several of you answers to your press, I'll get back to you before end of the build phase
27 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Holland]:I actually enjoy a good public press only game... wonder how that would play out in Chaos?
27 Feb 20 UTC Autumn, 1912: [Berlin]:I've played in one and it was pretty messy and toxic.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Constantinople]:Well played everyone. I think interesting things could have still developed here, but I'm still sick and don't have the energy for proper press right now
29 Feb 20 UTC [Constantinople]:Congratulations to the survivors!
29 Feb 20 UTC [Serbia]:This was a great game, I had fun! Hope to play more chaos games in the future, and to meet you in other games.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Holland]:Yes, congrats to all from the original, and thanks to all that picked it up.
Berlin, a friend for life (but I'll never know it since I only play anon).
Con, it would have been interesting, but very bloody. Good call.

Peace all.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Belgium]:Round 2 anyone?
29 Feb 20 UTC [Sweden]:Hell yes
29 Feb 20 UTC [Berlin]:I'd be down.

8 players surviving out of 34 is equivalent to a 1.65-way draw in classic, so I'd say we all achieved a pretty great result.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Belgium]:I’ll go ahead an make it same setup as this “i’d Be down”. I’m going to invite my cousin if that’s alright.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Portugal]:Room for me too?
29 Feb 20 UTC [Serbia]:Better make it 0 excused turns.
29 Feb 20 UTC [Belgium]:Ok
29 Feb 20 UTC [Belgium]:Too late. Someone joined
01 Mar 20 UTC [Berlin]:I'm not gonna join if there's excused turns, that's hell.
01 Mar 20 UTC [Serbia]:Ditto, this was bad enough.
01 Mar 20 UTC [Serbia]:This one needs 7 more though:
