30 Jan 20 UTC But I have just reached the All Time Top 100. :)
30 Jan 20 UTC Thanks for the game everyone. There was a moment there in 1904 when I thought an IFA alliance had a real chance to roll back RG and position italy as the dominant power in the game. Looking back at the position in fall 1904 we were damn close. Unfortunately Austria and myself could never really totally cooperate perfectly (we were good allies, but always Austria was concerned with evening the balance between us and admittedly I was always concerned with keeping the whip hand as well... which occasionally cost us against Russia) and the old French player made some very poor tactical plays resulting in him losing ground and France eventually being eliminated. In the endgame, I tried to turn the tables by getting AT to cooperate against Russia but they never managed to get on the same page to take the Black Sea. The new Russia is an excellent tactical player as well who outguessed me in a few crucial turns. In the end I could foresee the crumbling of the Italy-Austria line once Germany joined the Russian in attacking us and the only path to survival was to consolidate the draw position and try manipulate the board balance to assure a three way. Tip of the hat to RG for a game well played. My apologies to Wintogreen who deserved better than the knife in the back that I served and special thanks to Galahadill who took over a fairly hopeless position and played it diligently for many game years. Good luck to all in your future machinations.
30 Jan 20 UTC Thank you for the overall, I think nobody could have summarized it better.
30 Jan 20 UTC Honestly, after year 1 or 2 when you could have taken all my centers in a stab, i trusted you pretty well and was frustrated when you wouldn't talk with me. The you wanting trieste thing was when I kind of knew it was over. good game to all, and rip the key lepanto!
30 Jan 20 UTC Honestly, it was the French moves that had frustrated me the most. The AI alliance worked quite well for most of the game until I felt forced to stab by developments elsewhere on the board. Not Hector, but the previous French player who was replaced, made some bad moves that really handed the game to RG.

Looking back at Autumn 1904, the retake of Burgundy, combined with Austria's capture of Munich and supporting the English into Belgium worked brilliantly. Had France simply moved Wales-Irish Sea (a move that I suggested) he would have been able to cover MAO in 1905, and once F Mar turned around back to the west, would have four allied fleets to defend the MAO-Eng area (once the English fleet Bel is included).

Unfortunately France decided to use his F Wales to take a pointless pot shot at Lvp instead of covering Iri, then compounded that problem by removing F Wales during the adjustment phase. And then compounded it further, using F Eng to make an unsupported attack on London in 1905 (why???), resulting in the loss of the MAO space and the reduction of allied fleets to two with the English removal. The removal of F Wales was particularly dumb given that France had three armies sitting in Par-Pic-Bur with only a single hostile army on his border, and could think of nothing better to do with those armies than to mutually support. He might have simply removed A Paris, it would have been fine.

I don't normally go back and relitigate tactics like this in an EOG statement (and I am certainly piling onto another player much moreso than I would if he had not subsequently abandoned the position) but I looking back at it now I find myself super frustrated and the poor play by France is more than anything what sapped our attack on Germany of its momentum and allowed the RG alliance to gain control of the board. I have never played a Key Lepanto before and I was right on the verge of being richly rewarded for sticking with Austria instead of making the easy early game stab, so seeing the opportunity slip away due to poor tactics by the French (particularly when I worked hard to point out many possible alternatives to him) was frustrating at the time, and, looking back at it now, I am frustrated again.

But anyway, good game either way. Onward and upward.
30 Jan 20 UTC Well the previous Russia player was a great ally and we were planning on going all the way to the end together. The previous French player asked for way too much for our alliance to last. The only mistake I made was trusting Italy early on. It turned out fine but I almost lost the game to the AI stab in munich. I like how this game turned out because it was different.
31 Jan 20 UTC Yea I never really intended to stab Germany, but when the need to get Austria a build in 1904 coincided with the vulnerability of Munich and the German stab of France, the opportunity to turn the game on its head was too tempting for even the honorable Italians to resist. And it almost worked! Oh well...
31 Jan 20 UTC The Albanians still survive!
