09 Dec 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: How about we all call this a draw, that sounsd like fun
10 Dec 19 UTC Autumn, 1913: i did too
11 Dec 19 UTC Spring, 1914: Sorry Italy, I had long pondered if we were a duo to the end or if a stab was in our future.

When I saw the mutual support holds placed on France's units in Spring of 1910, no way for your army to advance except through Venice, and no word from you I read the board as about to flip against me and the stab I had long contemplated aimed at my back. I couldn't fight you and Germany if you got your Fleets into position, but if I moved quickly I could shatter any attempt at double crossing me.

I already knew from our conversations that a duo wasn't you goal but rather you sought a trio. You'd floated the idea and goal of an Austria, Germany, and Italy draw. But if you couldn't break through France? If I had stalled against Germany? Turn against Austria and you can secure your trio win and be done with it.

When I saw your moves, again support holding France's units, and moving an Army into our DMZed zone of Venice (Trieste and Adr. the other DMZed zones) - again with no word or contact despite doing so the last time you moved through Venice - I considered my read a good one.

Now with more distance and hindsight between us I have doubts, but still lack certainty. So a word of caution for future games, the moves you submit tell a story beyond the words you say.
12 Dec 19 UTC /sigh
I’m not sure if I’m kindhearted, foolish, loyal to a fault, not worried about ranking as much as I thought I was or what.

Regardless.
Draw vote is in.
12 Dec 19 UTC Good game
12 Dec 19 UTC Was about to enter orders and then decided that I didn’t feel like it
12 Dec 19 UTC Good Game
12 Dec 19 UTC Part of me felt like that happened the other night when I decided to vote Draw.

This game felt more like a game of lessons for me vs a crazy important must win game.

Though I do have a question for you France!
When you were trying to get me to turn on Germany and Italy - while we were fighting Russia - was that because you were hoping we'd get entangled leaving you free to expand prepping you for a solo win, was it you seeking to find an enemy you could dog pile on? (I'm curious if I had the correct read on you or not.)
13 Dec 19 UTC Pretty much
13 Dec 19 UTC I needed you to slow down a bit. I also was needing help with Italy
14 Dec 19 UTC Thanks!
(Forgot this game would stop popping up now that it’s over ^.^;;;)

Follow up: was there something I said that caused you to back Germany instead of attacking
I’ve a few ideas of what I could of done differently, but just wondering if there was something specific
14 Dec 19 UTC My dear Austria, for what it matters if you believe me after the fact I had no intention of backstabbing you, maybe I could have broadcasted that fact more clearly to you but in my mind, I thought we both recognized that if I were to turn on you France would certainly take all of my home centers, which is exactly what he set up to do the moment you attacked me.
I support held France because I saw two advantages and no disadvantages, as we could each hold the other off indefinitely with our defensive lines. Firstly and most importantly, in order for a triple draw to actually succeed, I needed France to get most of Germany's remaining centers so as to stop you from getting 18, that was hardly going to happen if France had more than half of his army tied up against me (I should mention that your actions made it clear you wanted Germany dead by now and I was indifferent to who among France or Germany survived, secondly, a good relationship with France might have made him let his guard down and it's possible I could have broken his line.
Finally, I was somewhat suspicious of you because you had said that you wanted Germany to be part of the triple and you just would take centers off him to maintain parity, but then you kept taking centers when they had ~9 and you had ~14 , which really looks like a solo attempt, and you put so much pressure on them they had to use all of their units to defend against you and were forced into an Alliance with France, which was the last thing I wanted.
14 Dec 19 UTC Well your support holds to France signaled a cease of hostilities between you and France. If you’re not fighting France and your not talking to me...well you could either be fighting me or fighting France.

So I made my move and committed my forces to securing your home centers (which are required for a solo attempt from Austria - so as long as you kept me on your side that wasn’t a worry). I have some regrets about moves I made and certain reads, but my betrayal of you certainly isn’t one.

You left me in the dark and all I had was the board to light the way.
