13 Sep 19 UTC GG guys. Germany and France, you deserve the draw, as you have been fighting well. Germany, you have been smart stopping your attack in France and working with him. Well done.
13 Sep 19 UTC gg. Bit of bad luck when Austria suicided on me just when i had E/F under control. Not sure what that was about.
Still extremely happy with my overall game.
13 Sep 19 UTC i was walking a thin line but this was SoS so it was more incentivized.
13 Sep 19 UTC I was just trying to stay in the game. Turkey beat me hands down. I am a bit new to no message games. Well done all.
13 Sep 19 UTC if you want help you should try supporting other players not attacking them. i would have supported you had it gotten much worse but my hands were tied to a degree.
13 Sep 19 UTC i would argue attacking both Italy and Turkey w/o russian support was strategically misguided.
13 Sep 19 UTC I picked up the game after someone left. It was already set to sime degree.
13 Sep 19 UTC gg, thank god Germany was smart enough to stop his attack when he did
13 Sep 19 UTC GG all. I'm happy I survived as long as I did with that fleet wanking around on the island. :P

My game was over in '03 when I got stabbed by Germany for Belgium - which unfortunately I could've held, derp - because this is the first gunboat game I've played in a while and I didn't understand the "Germany successfully attacks the entire west and gets it all" meta that gunboat seems to be. It seems this got flipped in Turkey's favour because of Italy's early foray into Munich, me throwing myself suicidally at Germany in favour of a more balanced strategy after being stabbed, and the more-rapid-than-usual consolidation of the east - so Germany had a slower game than she tends to have in the five or six other gunboats I've run through in the last month or two.

**end foodcoats' bitch-fest**

Really neat that this game went all the way to 1916, also. Long games are cool.

And most importantly... Turkey you did an amazing job of completely flipping the game on Austria, who was solidly ahead of you through 1910 or so. Well done!
13 Sep 19 UTC @England: There was no cooperation to speak of. you cannot expect 2 builds in Scand+Belgium when allying Ger. You need to focus on Brest/Spain/Por.
Dont think i could have beaten E/F w/o France stabbing/messing up. He got too gready.
Austria also never had the upper hand vs turkey. It is not all about dots.
13 Sep 19 UTC I agree, I was playing it in my head as a full-press EG but the architecture of the game is not the same when you can't communicate. But I also think I was obviously trying to be your ally because I was attacking France AND Russia. It's kind of silly of you to say France was greedy. Look at Spring '03 when I was in MAO, EC, IRI and StP, while you were setting up to attack Sweden and had entered Burgundy. You chose to take Sweden while also attacking me in Belgium. That is essentially declaring you are going to try to solo from S03.

I hardly blame you, though, as this is the meta I'm seeing in basically every game. Germany's position + weak Russia + E vs. F meta means that Germany can afford to go to war with ALL her neighbours.

It made sense for France and I to ally after you stabbed me, but I also agree with your assessment that it was in turn a little silly of France to dodge into IRI in Spring '06, essentially doing the same thing you had already done: go to war with both neighbours. But you (Germany) could actually afford to make that move because of the board state, whereas France stabbed me with a single unit, for a single dot, while they had two fleets tied up in the Med, making it essentially impossible for them to hold all their spaces when someone attacked them... as you were doing in S06 (though you were making peace overtures in A05).
13 Sep 19 UTC Nope. Just taking care of my interests. Keeping that army in Bel and going for St.Pet instead of helping me into Swe says i am not willing to share.
13 Sep 19 UTC out of 6 potential builds from France germany can get 1 or 2 at max.
13 Sep 19 UTC Same goes for France. building that fleet in brest in 1906 is declaration of war.
13 Sep 19 UTC Interesting thought process. What I saw was:

In W02 you built F Ber and Russia built A Mos, Russia had F BAL and A Swe. England F Nor support F Den to Swe is just a pointless move there because I'm expecting R to play F BAL S hold A Swe, A Mos to StP to shore up the northern front. By moving F Nor to StP I was actually anticipating bouncing A Mos to StP, creating a situation where Russia could not hold Sweden because they'd lose BAL to your two fleets, and I could've supported you into Sweden in the Autumn. The flaw in my analysis is that Russia would've built A or F StP if they wanted to force a northern game, and getting that fleet stuck in StP was actually a real pain.

So did you see F Nor to StP in S03 as a stab of you?
13 Sep 19 UTC well i would call it a bad fit of playstyle/interests or failure to anticipate my pov.
but in combination with Belgium and my real risk of not getting SWE i had to assume that i might be next should England get the opportunity to consolidate and regroup. Especially with France weakened and Russia wildcard.
And as Germany i do not have a problem to work with a weakend France since we have less borderfriction.
13 Sep 19 UTC Since there are quite some mandatory moves in early game those spots where you have choices hold some significance to me.
13 Sep 19 UTC Yup absolutely fair point Puscherbilbo.

@Temasek my dude, what was your thought process when you moved into IRI to nab Lvp that year?

Also, @MakTub, I'm just looking at this map again... did you not think you had a chance to take a run at Mar/Spa for a solo? I believe they need a fleet in Mar to make that line, do they not? It's always hard to tell, and I should hardly talk given I get defeated in 9/10 GB games, I'm just curious. :)
13 Sep 19 UTC Foodcoats...you can call me romantic, but I do not play just for points, solos or statistics. I tried for a solo for a couples of turns waiting for the germany stab on France. But he didn't. He was smart and then I decided they both deserved the draw. I had some options to break his line in the med, but as I said, I just ply for fun. :)
13 Sep 19 UTC Nice, I hear you! Romantically or mechanically, you played incredibly well biding your time until the moment came to strike out and your rise was tremendous. Very well done. :)
14 Sep 19 UTC @foodcoats I actually reread the maps and everything before getting greedy, oh well, my bad
14 Sep 19 UTC Ahh well that's the boat! Gg temasek
