21 Feb 19 UTC | Spring, 1901: London calling to the faraway towns Now war is declared and battle come down Greetings & Welcome to ODC 2019. Very much looking forward to hearing from everyone, Best Regards London |
26 Feb 19 UTC | Spring, 1902: My sincerest apologies to my fellow Powers. I have been playing a LOT of gunboat lately, signed up for this tournament some time ago and assumed that I was still playing Gunboat. So, yeah, German is kind of a dummkoph. I will be in touch with everyone individually as soon as I can. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: I hate to be that guy, but seriously? The phases are 36 hours long, are we really unable to enter orders in that amount of time? I've exchanged messages with all of you during this last phase, so its not like anyone hasn't been able to get to the site during this phase, and this isn't the first time this has happened. If you're using the 'Wait for Orders' mechanic to get extra time for diplomacy that hardly seems sporting. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Agreed, and furthermore this is a championship game, not just any other game of Diplomacy - we all have both the Diplomacy skill and mental ability to be able to work effectively within the allotted time, so we should do so. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: I made a lifetime’s habit out of being “that” guy, even for an extended period in PC California. Never did any harm, I think...:-) However concerning the game, it is a drag to experience regular “wait for orders” phases. Get a grip lads (& lassies?) |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: ha i guess the one who didn't write a string or two to global chat before the turn is over is considered a drag ) |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: In my experience Russia, most Diplomacy players are considered a drag by the unwashed masses, lol |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Haha nice one Turkey - the unwashed masses just haven't understood the glory of Diplomacy yet, though it's not a game of instant gratification so perhaps they never will! |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: I recently picked up an unopened copy of the 1999 Hasbro release with the metal pieces. No idea when I'll get a chance to play a game on it, but I am very excited about the possibility! My girlfriend and I have been building a board/card game collection and having regular game nights, and I've been proselytizing to every participant about the virtues of the Cult of Diplomacy. Got a few good prospects but no one has been willing to drink the kool-aid just yet |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Lol:-) I received a Diplomacy set for Christmas as a 12 year old. My older sister accused me of terrorising my school friends into playing “that horrible game”. Must admit right through University few of my fellow students played more than once. I guess the kook-aid is an acquired taste. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: From my experience due to work/family people can only spare an hour or two on board game and in case of diplomacy most guests/participants have to leave after just a few years/turns |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: I now prefer online play after many many years F2F (before computers/internet were invented). Same for Bridge. No more endless traveling to attend tournaments. The internet is accused of causing many ills since social media became popular, but for games such as this it’s real good. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Moderator: (Durga): So sorry guys, looking into it |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: It may have been me that was the hang up this time - inadvertently. I've not played in this interface before and its counterintutitive. I think I had the button set to "ready" which means its actually not ready. I'll get this learning curve done yet |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: :-) Completely understood. It was an interesting experience ahead of ODC. I found the interface rather nice, once the learning curve was surmounted. Good luck. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: I got my start in PBM, so I'm constantly behind the 8-ball with new interfaces. lol |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: OK - let me ask. I have sumbitted by adjustment and saved it. The drop down box is unavailable. But the button to the right of the Save button says "Not ready" Yet I think I'm submitted and indicated we can proceed. Is this correct? |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Yes. The button says 'Not Ready' to indicate that clicking it will change your status from 'Ready' to 'Not Ready.' |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: Next to your country tag at the top (which should be a brown 'Germany' you should see a little checkmark. If the checkmark is gray then your orders have been saved, but you are not in 'Ready' status. If the checkmark is green then your orders are saved and you are in 'Ready' status. If all players with orders to enter are in 'Ready' status the the phase will end and orders will be adjudicated even if there is time left in the phase. |
28 Feb 19 UTC | Autumn, 1902: If there is just a '- -' showing then you have no orders to enter this phase, and it is a pair of red exclamation marks then you have orders to enter for the phase and have neither saved nor 'Readied' your orders. |
