07 Feb 19 UTC Heyo. I thought I had maybe a 5% chance of getting a solo but there was no risk in trying. I needed to make way better guesses to actually get it. Sam you made VERY good endgame guesses against me - I probbaly needed to capture Paris last year to have a solo chance and gave up when you blocked me.

Good alliance Dan. Excellent play of austria-Italy. Sorry I gummed it up.

Referring back to mid-game I was hoping that Austria would NOT attack Germany so that I would have a chance of attacking Great Britain one day. But it would have only benefitted me in the long run

Everyone who plays in this league please learn a lesson about how it is a good alliance for Italy to work with Austria against turkey and to attack France early. Not only did we dominate the board, but as Italy I at least had SOME chance of a solo win.
07 Feb 19 UTC What was your next move, Swordsman? My guess was you would support Venice with Rome, move Pied to Marseilles so you could take Paris. I was moving Tyrol to Pied, Boh to Tyrol with Munich support. Would I have guessed right? Also rotate to Albania and attack Greece.
07 Feb 19 UTC You’ll just have to take my word for it, but this is probably what I was going to do:
Rom to Venice supported by piedmont
Venice convoy to Albania

If I was going to grind down one of your centers I would eventually have to get an army much further west, and I couldn’t risk piedmont yet again

I pretty much gave up once you had an army in Armenia. It was going to be almost impossible to clear that out. England would destroy my fleet in London and I would go backwards a build if I didn’t take I figured I should draw at my high water mark of 14 centers.

To have a REALLY good shot at a solo, I would have had to convoy 1 or 2 armies against turkey earlier on, or else penetrated further against England earlier on.

I built so many fleets because I didn’t want to build armies and imply I would attack only Austria for Austria to throw to England in response. And I held off against England for basically the same reason, once Germany was done for.

So I was trying to make the most out of a sudden strike for a solo and did a shitty job at both of those plans (getting further north with fleets or getting armies out east). But if I had made better guesses I might have gotten more builds faster that could have corrected the situation. Most importantly I needed you to to get into Armenia, or to take Paris quickly.
08 Feb 19 UTC Good game
08 Feb 19 UTC We always go to war lol
08 Feb 19 UTC good game all
08 Feb 19 UTC That was a fun one, although swordsman got my blood going a little at the end haha. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more pleasant alliance DaddyO.
08 Feb 19 UTC I guess it makes it easy when it a wall of ships vs a wall of tanks
08 Feb 19 UTC Agreed, especially the blood going part. I would have thrown the game to you if it came to it. Question? Why send the fleet to Barents before the end? I'm assuming to deter me from trying for a solo. Had the effect of me overweighting defense against you, which now I realize I have to not be as careless...
08 Feb 19 UTC I’m glad you learned something this game. I was hoping you’d learn that about my solo attempt even if it probbaly wouldn’t work. I was sooo careful about protecting Venice from a possible Austrian solo attempt.

09 Feb 19 UTC Yeah it was just to deter you and show Italy I wasn’t planing on trying for the mid Atlantic. my original plan was to take Petersburg, den and hol so I probably got a little hung up on that as well. I also got a little careless with Italy Maybe if I had that fleet siting in the North Atlantic he would have ended it quicker.
