23 May 18 UTC Spring, 1901: the usual Italian opening in this matchup is
VEN to TYR
ROM to APU
NAP to ION

and then in autumn:
VEN to TRI
ROM to GRE convoyed by ION

The reason for that opening is that if Germany gets into TYR in 1901, it's so devastating that Germany will probably win; the reason for convoying into Greece is to get around the TYR bottleneck and actually get multiple armies into the battle. An army can be build in NAP at the end of 1901, convoyed into ALB or GRE in spring 1902, and then autumn 1902 the fleet can take TUN and start going west.

It's really hard for Germany to get enough fleets into the west to matter, so make a slow start with the fleets is worth it for Italy to get around the early bottleneck of getting armies into the east.
24 May 18 UTC Autumn, 1902: Ya tried to fake you out there, but that is the danger in going high risk high reward.
24 May 18 UTC Spring, 1903: Here was my analysis:
Either you would support Venice to tyrolia with Vienna in which case you had to move Serbia to Trieste to stop my retreat and I would get Rumania. And retreat TYR to PIE. That was worst case scenario. Neutral outcome.

If you self bounced in Trieste with VEN and VIE and blocked me in Rumania, I would get only 2 builds but so would you as you couldn’t build from Venice. That is a decent outcome for me as getting builds out is the weakness of Italy in this matchup

Or best case scenario you do what you did and I sneak into Venice

So if you could have reverse engineered what I was thinking you might have anticipated my move more then you did. My move was extremely low risk, high reward. I favor moves like that.

But don’t beat yourself up; Italy is disfavored in this matchup. It might be a 6:4 matchup.
24 May 18 UTC Autumn, 1903: Ya I can't see a decent path to victory at this point, still going to try, but good game.
24 May 18 UTC Autumn, 1903: Yeah its usually over if you lose a home center as Italy. Germany can sometimes recover from losing munich but not often
25 May 18 UTC Ya I don't think this is going to last much longer.
25 May 18 UTC Thanks for giving it a shot
25 May 18 UTC Give me a day or two, I would be happy to try the game again with the same countries and see if I learned anything.
25 May 18 UTC Any time
