27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: Integrity? I play to win - I'm sorry if that is not how you play but I think walking away from the game is in poor taste.

By walking away you put me in a spot that shouldn't arise. If I take the win after you refuse to enter moves, I screw over Italy from the potential of stopping the solo and getting a draw. If I wait for you to CD and then draw with Italy, I am screwing myself from the opportunity to win, which I think I deserve the chance to go for. If you choose to walk away from the game, I'll be quite disappointed that I invested so much time in just to not see a true ending.

I just don't understand your rationale. Yes, I lied. I can't imagine this is the first time a player has lied to you.
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: I play for enjoyment, and I get as much, perhaps more enjoyment from draws as I do from solo wins, in fact I don't rate solo wins as highly as a lot of other players. I could write an essay about what I enjoy about Diplomacy and solo wins would maybe get a sentence or two. The challenge of "reading " a game situation before a spring move, Mid game and producing a brilliant tactical implementation of shift in strategy to ..blah blah, Mentoring an inexperienced player in a game.
I was interested in this game partly because of the stellar participants playing, and then to see if one of my favourite alliance pairings would stay united to the finish, because it so rarely does, but more interested in another game, which although it is the flawed World variant, no press, anon, and ghastly gunboat, I got Oz, Australia, & I'm Australian, so for silly emotional reasons there can be no greater honour and challenge. I've never played Oz before, and well let's face it, I'm not an elite level player. I'd actually thought of asking if it was ethically allowed, after the completion of this game, for the chap with Germany, if he was interested in discussing that game, offering me some advice... That won't be happening.
I did a filtered search of previous solo wins in similar types of World games from the Archives & had to wade through ten? pages of games to find a winner with Oz...Victorious was the player, and I'm glad I did have a thorough look at his game... I've struggled to eight sc's, defeated Frozen Antarctica, and have just pulled a brilliant move that I saw Victorious do, you lure the enemies army out of south pole to sneak an apparently poorly defended, unnocupied Leninsgradskaya ( some of the place names in World ??? ) and steal the South Pole... Any way I also ambushed another player in South America to influence the game dynamics and as part of my campaign to succeed in Antarctica, also inspired by Victorious & how he played Oz.

I'm not shocked at the betrayal, it is part of the game, I lied to the chap with Austria. I'm simply disappointed, and this game has to compete with other things for my interest, my game where I have Oz, and a new relationship in the real world...
I appreciate your reply ( Germany ) I don't NMR / go CD frequently, but I choose to do it to put you in exactly the position in which you find yourself. I knew when I postponed that build that I was nobbling myself, so it would never be a fair fight if it came to this.
Is doing what I'm doing, making it even easier for you to capture the sc's you need any different.
The player I'm not helping, not giving a fair go to is the chap with Italy, and for that I apologise, it is most unfair for him.
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: I'll put in one order, to move out of Sweden, that should speed you on your way to solo Success
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: No it's an army and can't move to Gulf of Bothnia
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: I will stop wasting your time. All hold orders.
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: I'm torn..continuing to fight legitimises the win for you gives you more to crow about, but not fighting is unfair to Italy.
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: If I'd built that extra fleet I'd feel it was a fair fight That's the bit that cruels me, after all we talked about regarding a German Russian alliance, sure it can end so one of other can go for the solo, but that was your dirtiest trick to get yourself that advantage before the stab
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: Actually that's the damn thing that's making me change sorry Italy, I won't fight at all
27 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: Russia, I don't know what your problem is, but get over yourself. You signed up for this game specifically in the forum, and if I'm not mistaken there was a waiting list of other people that would have loved to have played in this. Quit crying, and finish this game you signed up for the right way. It takes the fun out of it for everyone else when people like you surface.
28 Dec 16 UTC Spring, 1908: If you are no longer interested in the game, sending messages or entering orders, I would at least ask that you finalize quickly if possible. I would appreciate getting this over with sooner rather than later. I know its in your right to use all of the phase, so I'm not going to fight you on it, just asking so we can all move on from this game.
28 Dec 16 UTC Which I did, I had my orders for that spring move finalised before everyone else, and I've done my disbands promptly and finalised the Autumn move orders.
In the game I care about I've kicked that wicked blighter with Sth Africa out of my sc, kept his, the South Pole and captured Bombay so go to ten sc's, Hoorah. I see problems ahead for me with stronger rivals.
This game ? I won't give you entertainment with a sham, rigged, pretend fight, the player with Germany wants his solo, I'll not stand in his way.
I made an agreement with him, I keep my word when I promised to not attack Germany and support him.
28 Dec 16 UTC How about you care about all the games you signed up for regardless of how you are doing? You just sound like a sore loser to me.
28 Dec 16 UTC It looks really bad when you say "the game you care about" is the one you are doing well in. If you don't commit to a game 100% regardless of how you do, I would suggest not signing up for special invite games on the forum.
28 Dec 16 UTC No it's the country I've got that makes my other game so important to me regardless of the state of play in this game and that goes back to the start of this game because both started about the same time.
I have a real liking for the German and Russian alliance, so it's disappointing for me that this one failed, but I choose to be loyal to that idealised concept.
The player with Russia might have chosen to do it differently, convinced me to gang up on Italy. He's decided to get five of the sc's he needs to win from Russia, I choose to be a loyal to the alliance even if the decision by Germany is the one he's made.
28 Dec 16 UTC I've never played this country ever before, it's anon world no press ( which is starting to appeal ) to me, I very very rarely play no.press, 4% of my games here maximum I'd estimate..my real world country is this country. My favourite country in classic is England, and this country in the flawed World variant is like an Antipodean England.
So from the moment I got this country that game became the most important game in all my games here at WebDiplomacy.
28 Dec 16 UTC I've got a draw vote up, so it's Germany's choice how he proceeds
28 Dec 16 UTC Now you all get to feel my pain :)
28 Dec 16 UTC :+)
28 Dec 16 UTC No kidding Austria, if this is how they've been the whole time I really wish they would have skipped signing up for this game and someone else that wanted to play had gotten in. This is ridiculous.
29 Dec 16 UTC I see there is a forum thread about this. I'll use that to post my thoughts - as it seems like other people have thoughts as well. What I'll say here is that I was really conflicted on how to end the game (I even sent Italy a message about doing a two-way draw. Again sorry for getting your hopes up, that was shitty of me.) I literally was having trouble sleeping because I didn't know what the right way to handle this was. In the end, I thought it was best to just continue to play towards my own win condition. If RUS had CD'd, I may have drawn, but the fact that he was here and just choosing to throw the game made it hard for me not to justify taking the win.

I'll continue in the forum thread when I have time. Overall I had a lot of fun until the end.
