15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 7: when everybody deffends.... draw?
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 7: I call for a draw
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 8: i cant understand anything
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 8: No to 4-way draw. 3-way at most.
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 8: i cant understand anything
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 8: of course persian, of course.....
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 8: but if everybody deffend and betrayed, and anyone talk to me... its difficult
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 9: The spirit of this game is that there can only be 1 winner.
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 9: The spirit of this game is that there can only be 1 winner.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: That is not the spirit of this game. The spirit of this game rests on the ability to negotiate and strategize.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: The draw button wouldn't exist, then.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: no no no no no, the spirit of this game is fight... not hold all the troops
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: greece and carthage, in many turns, support hold the 90% of her troops... and persia moves in circles.... its non sense
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: Fighting isn't always the best policy. Look how you ended up, Egypt. Alone in the desert.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: I click on draw and accept your unconditionnal surrender
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: As Rome learned, fighting everyone is a very quick way to the grave.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: The spirit of this game is actually to move in circles. Most of the games I've played have been won by the player who was best at moving in circles.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: the ability to negotiate?? ok for win, not for draw
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: Ugh. The cyr -> sytris move was actually a mistake.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 9: carthage, you conquest italy... with help
you conquest me.. with help
in this game, im alone all the time... and betrayed
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: So it goes.
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: i try no negotiate with everything.... and alone
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: A VIND S VIN - DAL
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: no... I have better...
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: ok ok, i accept. the results, but when im at bay, everybody support hold and dont fight... its not the game
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: Unless you agree to surrender ?
15 May 16 UTC Spring, 10: ( I have given my orders. I don't know why it doens't move on... )
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: Rome, come to Chersonesus.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: We'll reconquer Italia from there.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: I go back to Vind.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: Come to Cher.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: That way you can actually live.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: This is hubris of the highest caliber.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: Hi Persia. I was not convince that Greece and Carthage would go on their alliance.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: Some people just like to watch the world burn.
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: No problem Rome!
15 May 16 UTC Autumn, 10: Good luck.
15 May 16 UTC Good luck next game!
15 May 16 UTC GG guys
15 May 16 UTC Good game everyone! Valiant effort, Persia. As annoying as that was (:
15 May 16 UTC You may have won two of you. That's against the spirit of this game to make an alliance to death. Did you recognize each other ?
15 May 16 UTC You may have won two of you. That's against the spirit of this game to make an alliance to death. Did you recognize each other ?
15 May 16 UTC Seems not. That's a choice then.
15 May 16 UTC What's with dictating the "spirit of this game"? People win and people lose. It's not a bad thing. Greece was incredibly loyal, as was I. I'm not going to just throw that away because games might be more exciting if I screwed him out of some land.
15 May 16 UTC It's not about exciting or not.
The goal of this game is to win. That is what the rulebook says. If the rulebook said the goal was to survive, my playstyle would be very different.
Not playing for the goal of the game makes the game less enjoyable for every other player on the board, no matter what game you're talking about.

And yes, you can't really get real games on this site these days, especially if they're live games. I personally don't think that should stop people from trying, but this is a more philosophical line of thought.
15 May 16 UTC There wouldn't be an option to draw if you were only supposed to "win." Last time I checked, you drew the game too.
15 May 16 UTC ok ok, i accept. the results, but when im at bay, everybody support hold and dont fight... its not the game
15 May 16 UTC the draw option is there in order to stop games for which there cannot be a winner. But when 2 players decide to ally up to the end whatever happens kills the fun of this game.
15 May 16 UTC There was no reason for me to break my alliance, why would I do that? Throwing that away is an easy way to die.
15 May 16 UTC I'm of the same opinion as Rome. Historically, the draw option was only added to the game because on the classic map, it's extremely easy to turn a game into an unwinnable stalemate. So much so that a big part of mid-game strategy on the classic map involves sacrificing immediate gains in exchange for spreading units out to make sure you touch the major stalemate lines.
It's not that the game encourages co-operative victories. It's that the game wants to resolve situations where every player in the game must submit the exact same moveset ad perpetuum.

But, to be fair, that was the original intent of the draw rule. It is now many decades later, and all games evolve.
