13 May 16 UTC Spring, 1922: Is it draw time yet France/?
13 May 16 UTC Spring, 1922: Non.
13 May 16 UTC Spring, 1922: Por Favor
13 May 16 UTC I'm not going to lie, I'm actually quite proud of getting this draw set up (I certainly wish it were not sum of squares scoring haha, but c'est la vie). Good game all.
13 May 16 UTC Spring, 1922: Is it draw time yet France/?
13 May 16 UTC Does sum of square scoring change in draws? I don't think so... I think it only matters for solo's
13 May 16 UTC Also, good job Turkey :) Proud of you
13 May 16 UTC Oh interesting, I guess I misunderstood what sum of squares meant. I thought it just was a name change and replaced PPSC ( This is one of my first games back in like 3 years)
13 May 16 UTC Oh, does it? I think this is the first game I've ever played with sum of squares scoring, so I honestly don't know. I'm also somewhat recently rejoining the scrum.

I'm honestly impressed by pretty much everyone in this game lol. I still regret actually not working with you Italy--I think this game would have obviously looked incredibly different. This has certainly been one of the more interesting games I've played (though far from my best haha), and it seems like we actually had a fair share of "seasoned DIP vets." I'd certainly be willing for a rematch in the future.
13 May 16 UTC No, you were right. Not sure if I'm a fan of the scoring system, but objectively it seems better I suppose since the more powerful country should get most of the spoils. Just used to the other system I guess. I guess this also makes some of the messages I sent irrelevant, because there is no "strong second" in Sum of Squares. Oh well, haha.

And yes, I would love to see another game, this was a lot of fun and I also wish I got to work with you Turkey! Its to bad we weren't able to trust one another after the initial go around :P
13 May 16 UTC I would love to see another game as well. I actually cut down on my diplomacy habit because I was too focused on this game to get 3 or 4 going at once.
13 May 16 UTC I much prefer to have a few, high quality games rather than a ton of low quality ones to be honest.
13 May 16 UTC Russia was really the only person I wouldn't want back, if its all the same to everyone else. I don't like quitters
14 May 16 UTC Hey! GG all, well done! I agree, Russia hit many bad buttons for me... Poor playing, very rude in chat, and quitting. I could also avoid England, if only because he never talks.

I'll see if I can get that Reddit post up at some point!
14 May 16 UTC Let me know when the Reddit post goes up, I want to discuss. Great game to everyone - seriously we should start another one.

Self-analysis: France was a great ally from the beginning. He had to fight me because I was growing too fast and playing somewhat irrationally with my terrible expedition into Austria early on. He just picked a really bad ally in England. England turned on him almost immediately. I will never understand why England stabbed me when France was against the ropes - the coolest point on the map in my opinion is the year where France is down to like 3 SC's, England stabs me, and we reverse and run wild on him.
14 May 16 UTC I will always wonder what might have been if the Kaiser was not over-indulging in his newly acquired Crimean women and missed his turn in 1918...
14 May 16 UTC Very good game, pleasure playing with you guys.
15 May 16 UTC I will always wonder what might have been had I not stupidly messed up the capture of Bulgaria early on. Also, for me the most adrenaline pumping part of the game was the one turn where everyone on the board turned on me and Italy. Game was super intense for those few years.
15 May 16 UTC That's true, I thought Austria was in trouble the whole game and kept surviving. Even when it was the world against Italy and Austria - italy still stabbed Austria
15 May 16 UTC I think there were a lot of "critical" moments in this game, that could have changed the tide of the whole game.
I would say the first one was Austria moving to attack Germany, which I thought was quite silly, and probably was the cause for "world vs. AI"
However, the second one was definitely the critical move in which Austria didn't support to Bul in 02, and had to disband, and gave Turkey time to prepare himself and made him impossible to adequately attack.

If neither of those things happened, i can see our AI alliance being EXTREMELY successful.
Anyway, yes the world vs. AI was an extremely stressful time, and luckily Turkey was (sorta) on my side there and didn't do anything to disrupt my line against France. Overall I found Turkey to be a very solid player. It gave me the confidence to move on Austria after the F/G threat sort of abated.

I attacked Austria because he was my only outing for growth. He was small, had no fleets to help against Turkey, and he just wasn't ggoing to be a productive ally at that point.

I don't know what your guy's problem with England was. He was fine with me and didn't seem to do anything crazy. Everyone just always stabbed him for some reason. I guess his press was short? But I just feel like he got the short end of the stick because G/F had a weird love connection... I could write a lot about this and other pivital moments of the game but maybe save for EoG or something :P
15 May 16 UTC That weird love connection was based on England being uncommunicative and unwilling to compromise in my experience. He was a great player tactically however.
16 May 16 UTC I had too little time on the backend of the game, and at some key moves. I think I missed a move or two as well, when I was moving houses. Anyway, too little time devoted to the game, got me eliminated I think!
16 May 16 UTC I liked England, he was pretty good. I felt the stab coming in 1910/1911, and I think it would have been really successful had England waited to get Brest / Spain before stabbing. I was all about helping him grow, and I think he was just a turn or two early.
16 May 16 UTC For some reason imgur is acting weird. I'm busy right now, but I'll try again later today to get the game uploaded properly for reddit
16 May 16 UTC I had to call out of the other game for now, I realized I have to much on my plate. If you guys are willing to wait two weeks, I would love to restart then
16 May 16 UTC I'd be okay with that if everyone else is as well
16 May 16 UTC Fine with me.
16 May 16 UTC Folks, I regret that I didn't play better in this game. There has been much press about my play and my messaging to which I do take exception. I likely was somewhat short but I was dealing with my wife in the hospital during that time, so all is not what it appears. BTW, she is OK and came through the surgery fine. I think that my ranking in the Hall of Fame should also speak to the quality of my gamemanship. I debated whether to send this post but finally wanted to defend my honor so to speak. Congrats to all the players. I did follow the game after my elimination.
16 May 16 UTC I'm fine with waiting for the new game. Sorry to hear about your wife, Russia. Do you want to play in the Redux game in a few weeks?
16 May 16 UTC Hey Russia,

Its not the level of play that I took exception with, I have no doubt you are a great player, as based on your ranking/whatever. And it has nothing to do with the fact that you got eliminated, no one can be perfect every game, and sometimes things stack against you and there is nothing you can do about it.

My problem was with you pretty much just giving all your territory to another country without looking into your best interest. That is always the one thing that I feel 'breaks' the game. People come into the game with (in my opinion) one assumption that unifies everyone: In the end, even in elimination, people are looking out for their best interest. Even if they are losing/etc.
Instead of doing that, you decided to simply cede your territories to Germany, causing him to grow bigger than he otherwise would at that point, and really throwing the game off.

I'm sorry about your wife, and I hope everything is OK. If you needed time, I would not have been adverse to a pause, or replacement, etc. I don't want to appear insensitive of course, I'm glad everything is fine and this is just a game. Just wanted to let you know why I had my opinion
16 May 16 UTC To be fair, I think Russia's play is certainly within the rules of the game, and I also believe it to be an acceptable tactic. Making an opponent even larger can certainly help one to unit the masses against said target. Had Russia had more time to devote to press, he may have been able to play said tactic successfully. Glad to hear your wife made it through the surgery well.
16 May 16 UTC That's true turkey, and I did promise Russia survival. His last message to me is something like, "Seriously??? After I helped you?"
16 May 16 UTC unit=unite, for the record
17 May 16 UTC Oooohhh, that changes things then. He told me that he was just giving all his centers to Germany regardless of what I did, so I thought he was being a sore loser. Had he made it clearer what he was doing I might have regarded it as a legitimate tactic.
17 May 16 UTC A sore loser? Absolutely never! Who is up for a rematch so I can at least try to recover some semblance of honor? I'm forming a new game For Seasoned DIP Vets 2. Password is Sweetwater.
25 May 16 UTC Hey did this ever go up on Reddit? And are we available for a Second game? I know Austria was having trouble finding time...
25 May 16 UTC I tried putting it on reddit, but imgur kept having problems whenever I'd try to make an album
25 May 16 UTC I might give it another shot at some point though
26 May 16 UTC I would still be up for a second game (though I think I'd prefer draw size scoring lol). Neither of those preferences are essential, though.
26 May 16 UTC New game is set up "for seasoned Dip Vets 2"
26 May 16 UTC Doesn't it have to be private if we know eachother? I got warned for this once before, don't want to get banned.
26 May 16 UTC I don't know. I put in the game as anonymous. I could resubmit as private with a password. Comments anyone?
26 May 16 UTC I would like to redeem myself if given the opportunity!
26 May 16 UTC If it needs to be private it is named For Seasoned DIP Vets - 3. Password is sweetwater.
28 May 16 UTC Can we make it a 100-point game? I'm no SweetwaterSam with 8000 points :)
29 May 16 UTC I'll have to crate a new game but I'd be happy to reduce to 100. Same password.
29 May 16 UTC I can't join a game right now i'm going through a pretty stressful time :P If you guys can wait a week or two I would be happy to join. June 11th would be a great day for me to start!
30 May 16 UTC Remind me and I'll,put something together on or about June 11. Will everyone play?
30 May 16 UTC I'd be willing to play another game.
30 May 16 UTC Great, i'll send a reminder here!
