28 Sep 15 UTC Not quite sure why you didn't seem to accept the olive branch, yale, fulhamish. It seems knocking off Kiel and being done would have been the way to go. As it was, I didn't see anyway to defend against what seemed to be a gathering onslaught.
28 Sep 15 UTC I disagree, Kiel was doing great.
28 Sep 15 UTC Bah. I guess I panicked at the notion that I wasn't going to be able to defend Serbia/Trieste while waiting for Kiel to fall. I was just one unit short with that Army coming up. I'd hoped for a DMZ there, but looking at fleets in Const and Ankara and a push north and that because pretty worrying.
28 Sep 15 UTC I thought it was particularly amusing that France kept attacking me, which ensured that Russia was grabbing my centres.
28 Sep 15 UTC Congrats with the draw, especially to Germany ;).

I have never attacked Italy as Austria, and after this game, i will never do it again :(
28 Sep 15 UTC (before) is missing in the first half of this game :)
28 Sep 15 UTC Yeah, it's a pretty dangerous thing to do before you have Russia under control.
28 Sep 15 UTC You almost succeeded in the attack - if you hadnt attacked Turkey in Greece at the same time, things might have been different.
28 Sep 15 UTC Russia - I was assuming you and France would work out Kie this year and then we had the 3-way draw. I was moving my units into position against you so that France would feel more comfortable with you taking Kie and not being a solo threat. Of course another option would have been for you to support France into Kie.
28 Sep 15 UTC Or you could have attacked Kie from Mun with two supports letting France have Mun in exchange for you grabbing Kie.
28 Sep 15 UTC That's roughly was my plan. I didn't support myself in there, but rather Munich supported Holland to Kiel twice. Instead, he went for Norway and Munich rather intensely, which made me pretty worried I'd collapse and he'd solo. The hand over of Bulgaria was to enable a fourth fleet for you to block a French solo attempt should I lose Munich (with France in Piedmont, and Scandinavia ultimately indefensible, I think France was a bigger solo threat than I.).

Ah well. Maybe it turns out not to matter...

A great game all the way around, by the way. This has been a great series, even where I've been booted early!
28 Sep 15 UTC France is not a solo threat on the current board. He has 10 centers. Give him all of Scandinavia (Nor, Swe, Den), StP, Kie, Ber, and Mun and he's still only at 17 with no way to take Tun or any other centers.
28 Sep 15 UTC I'm quite confident he would have accepted a draw as soon as Kie fell. But the 4-way is on me and France as much as you, we certainly didn't have to keep our draw votes on, especially since this is hidden draw anyway.
28 Sep 15 UTC I'm most annoyed at myself for getting too cute in Fall 05, leaving a guaranteed build on the table by trying to get Ven by supporting what I expected would be an Austrian self bounce of Rom rather than just taking empty Tun. With a build there I could have defended against your stab which I knew was coming in 06 but also continued my westward expansion. That mistaken gamble cost me any shot at the solo.
28 Sep 15 UTC Yep. I have to say I was surprise to see you leave yourself that open and I figured that I'd have to stab that turn or face a long slog of holding you off for the rest of the game. (And Bulgaria was supposed to be the insurance policy for Tunis.) Funny how this game turns that way. For my part, letting my Barents sea fleet get destroyed didn't help my solo efforts. Another turn of playing footsy in the Mediterranean might have have done it.
29 Sep 15 UTC No worries Austria - it wasn't your fault you went down, my opening screwed us both over.

That's the last time I try one of ATC's Italy openings. I swear they only ever work for him.
29 Sep 15 UTC I think he does them mainly for the thrill, not the result.
