23 May 15 UTC Autumn, 1904: Now, I think its unfair for you all to not know who I am since when I was joining I saw briefly who you all are (I'll probably forget in a few days anyways, but still)

But I'm goldfinger. Looking forward to playing with you all.
23 May 15 UTC Autumn, 1904: (ghug): You have the whole retreat phase to get acquainted, so I'm just unpausing. Thanks, gold.
23 May 15 UTC Autumn, 1904: (peterwiggin): 1. Find a carebear.
2. 2 way draw with the carebear.
3. Get ganged up on by all the carebears in the semis.
23 May 15 UTC Autumn, 1904: Oh bugger, GF, we might as well scrap the anony-effing-mous bit! I am Chumbles. Not a care bear, but a venerable teddy bear!
24 May 15 UTC Autumn, 1904: Look at him with the golden heart (ha, puns) taking over a position as it is needed.
04 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1906: Well, Russia and Austria I wish you luck against our great German overlord. Italy is clearly not interested in seeing reason so I'll be busy in the south until Germany conquers me
05 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1906: Very sorry to everyone for not getting press out. I have a very busy weekend, so if a pause is out of the consideration, I would appreciate not readying up the builds.
05 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1906: I'm fine with a pause, i'll be away most the weekend anyways.
05 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1906: Or dragging heels on finalizing is also fine.
16 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: Wow....well I'm a bit shocked by that turn...
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: Can I just kinda butt in here for a second.

How is the least talkative person on the board soundly beating the 4 most talkative people on the board?

Wake up sheeple
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: What's a "sheeple"?
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: I would like to congratulate Austria on convincing everyone to hand him the solo.
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: 10 SCs is pretty far away from a solo.
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: 10 SCs and a brilliant position is closer to a solo than you think.
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: I wish to gift Turkey with the Golden Dagger award for having stabbed his neighbours repeatedly, and a pair of spectacles so that he can see the board accurately!
17 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1908: I wish to hand that same award to Austria for doing the same.
23 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: Good game Turkey! You put up a great fight.
24 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: gg Turk.
24 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: GG to my former allies and fellow enemies. This game has been unnaturally bad play on my part. I have been hoping that my performance in my other game was enough to warrant going on regardless of my loss here. I do hope to see you all in the next round. Good luck in this game. I bid you all farewell, though I will probably continue to watch from time to time.
24 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: *former not fellow enemies. Hope that didn't cause confusion.
24 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: Au 'voir mec; you fought well. Your tactics were good, but as you know, your strategy choices doomed you. Wish you luck in the other game.
26 Jun 15 UTC Autumn, 1909: I suppose it is easier for me to hit ready considering I only have one option here.
27 Jun 15 UTC Hi guys, I'm going to need a pause soon- actually I may need to get a substitute, but I'll talk to the tourney director about that. Can we pause after this phase processes?
27 Jun 15 UTC A long pause?
27 Jun 15 UTC depends on whether or not I can get a substitute.
27 Jun 15 UTC I'm sure few would even object to just drawing.
27 Jun 15 UTC I'll just need to pause until the first (of july), but will need a substitue from the 6 to 16.
27 Jun 15 UTC OK, I'd rather carry on with the current cast, and I don't mind waiting. Up to the TD really... hitting Pause
27 Jun 15 UTC If you're reading this please hit pause.
29 Jun 15 UTC (ghug): So, I can either find a sub/sitter for him, or you guys can agree to a longer pause than normal. It's up to you all, but if even one of you objects to the long wait, I'll be replacing.
29 Jun 15 UTC I'm fine with the pause.
29 Jun 15 UTC What are we suggesting, keeping this pause going until the 16th or starting back up on the 1st and pausing again from 6-16?
29 Jun 15 UTC I'm OK with the pause; I should be able to live that long ;¬)
29 Jun 15 UTC (ghug): I'd prefer you unpause for the few days he is here. I don't want this game to hold the tournament up.
30 Jun 15 UTC Agreed
02 Jul 15 UTC I have returned! (for now)
04 Jul 15 UTC I believe this game should be cancelled. Not only is it only partially anonymous, but having had one replacement, it looks as though we may get another. Each one creates effectively a different game and I feel invalidates the tournament concept.
04 Jul 15 UTC If so we should propose a draw between the remaining players and call it a day
04 Jul 15 UTC Works for me.
04 Jul 15 UTC But that being said, I was under the impression we wouldn't get a permanent replacement, just a sit-in while Austria is on holiday dor 10 days, so I wouldn't mind continuing either. This is a very fun and interesting game for me.
04 Jul 15 UTC Plenty more like it or better waiting in the queue for next round.
04 Jul 15 UTC How does placement into the next round go?

ie - does Russia have an incentive for this game to be drawn right now over the rest of us?
04 Jul 15 UTC Points are even split for everybody in the draw + points per SC so yes, Russia would get the higher and the higher seeding for next round.

A little less then half the players (Top 21) move on to the semi final around, but considering there's bound to be some drop-outs then chances are if you've a win under your belt then your chances to move on are probably pretty good.
04 Jul 15 UTC Hmmmm, in that case, I must admit a draw right now is somewhat less appealing
04 Jul 15 UTC Where ARE the rules for the Tourney? In WTA normally on webDip the points are split equally between surviving players!
04 Jul 15 UTC http://tournaments.webdiplomacy.net/online-diplomacy-championship

The additional SC points are pretty trivial since it's just 1 point per SC. I think they do that just for tie breaker reasons. Once you get to the Semi's points are wiped out anyways and you're back at 0 trying to earn your way into the finals.

So personally i'd tend to agree that yet another replacement doesn't sound the most appealing and if everybody (who cares to) feels confident enough they'll be moving on to the next round then a draw right now doesn't sound so bad. I've for the most part enjoyed this game so far but the curve balls are starting to pay their toll and while i'm willing to go along with it i can't really say I'm really in love with the idea with very long term pauses.
04 Jul 15 UTC Thanks guys; some very august company and enjoyable for the most extent. I was noy in as strong a position at the end there as it might look and I would much rather have played this again.... but TRP, as you admitted not your best game.

GF, solid stuff tactically, as you'd expect, but a tad too didactic at the start! You never know who you're talking to, and that tone was responsible for us being able to get an alliance, with the exception of Jokke, against you! And I'd love to know whether that F fleet was really going to help you!

Thanks once again; special prize for VI for consistent and chatty comms!
05 Jul 15 UTC haha, no problem Chumbles. I realized too late that I should've just plowed straight through you at the start, but I figured my better shot at a solo would've been to take out France with VI and then clean up with you, so that's the route I took.
06 Jul 15 UTC Whew, what a game!! Loved it and hated it at the same time.

Jokke you're a freakin' machine, could tell from the very beginning. Originally wanted to get you out as soon as possible but once old Germany left me hanging my next favourate option was to work with you. Unfortunately knowing how dangerous you were i knew i could only do that under certain conditions or my throat would get cut sooner or later and just couldn't seem to get that safeguard in place. I'm sure i was a huge thorn for you, but i hope we meet up again in later rounds.

Austria, really well done. A weaker player would have just rushed his gains but you had some wisdom in trying to push your game forward.

Goldie, thanks for filling in! You hit the ground running way hard in many directions so not surprised it ultimately bit you in the ass. The position you walked into you should have had a very easy run in this.

Chumbles - Really enjoyed talking with you and you were very savvy in your game play! I know you and France could have easily pulled in a third to whittle this down to a three way so feeling very fortunately i squeaked out something from this game. I know if i were in your situation i probably would have been a little more cutthroat. Whew!

Thanks everybody!
