Autumn, 1998: Let's see now - Mean ole Rome has it out for itty bitty Spain. And, alas, it is possible that the sun shall finally set on Iberia - but, wait, what do we see? Will Tunis fall to the fighting Pharaoh? And Bulgaria, a tiny cut of support and snip, she too will fall. And looked, do I see, not one, not two, but three unoccupied Italian supply centres bordering what seem to be less than friendly states? Romey old fellow - if you call off your attack, I'm willing to help. What do you say? Can we let bygones be bygones? Toodles. Enrico Guadelupe Guillermo Ossaga del Andalucia y los pais Francisco. PS: You can call me EGGO for short. |
|
Autumn, 1998: Didn't GERMANY used to be called the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE at one time? So, if GERMANY were to attack ITALY, it wouldn't be really an invasion. It would kinduv be like taking back what was really once yours. GERMANY, can little ole Spain entice you to revisit Rome? I know that it has gone to seed and the trains don't run on time, but the food is great and the women gorgeous. And let's face it, GERMAN food and GERMAN opera is the reason you are so aggressive in the first place. We're root'n and toot'n for ya - and ITALY - consider yourself raspberried. EGGO |
|
Autumn, 1998: As amusing as your comments are Spain, Italy is a trusted ally of Germany, and that will remain the case for many years to come. A fight against Italy would be suicidal as just in case you didn't notice, he is the strongest player on the board. Stop trying to save your own bacon :P Besides, Germany has other wars to fight. That's right Britain, I'm coming for you now! The German people demand revenge for WW1 and WW2. |
|
Autumn, 1998: And so the mad kaiser did destroy all of Europe, establishing a new Rome. How pointlessly tragic. |
|
Spring, 1999: wow....cant believe the whole board turns on me at the same time....you guys must really be worried about me....
Spring, 1999: It is pure unadulterated jealousy. That's it; that's all. You are smarter, better looking, and have a certain je ne sais quoi that drives the rest of us mental.
Spring, 1999: yeah, i guess so.....and all your whining seemed to pay off, huh?
Spring, 1999: Have you seen the animated movie "Puss'n Boots" staring Antonio Banderas - when he does that thing with his eyes he is absolutely irresistible. My whinging might not be as pretty but maybe it's effective - either that or the smell - I've been known to skip bathing for a month or two (or three or four). The smell keeps away smaller rodents and most of the neighbours. I was actually rather surprised that you coped as well as you did.
Spring, 1999: its only a game, and its not the first time i have been ganged up on....i play this game pretty well
Spring, 1999: but i do know who orchestrated the whole deal....i dont blame ukraine, we have been fighting since the beginning, but germany was a good ally, i didnt think he would turn on me like that
Spring, 1999: You're absolutely right - GERMANY has absolutely no backbone whatsoever and the minute I showed up I managed to con him into throwing all his promises to the wind and to go after ITALY with a vengeance. I'm good - its hypnosis don't you know - he isn't even aware that he is actually attacking you. As long as I don't accidentally snap my fingers he will continue to do my very bidding. I don't ask him to cook or to sing though - what he does to food and what he does to opera is unbearable to think about.
Spring, 1999: Talking like that right after Germany effectively stands by your side won't help your cause too much. Also, I'm not sure if there was any kind of deal. It just seemed to be convenient for me: I was fearing your growing power in the Mediterranean. And as you would do to any powerful neighbour or rival, you attack them, if need be. |
|
Spring, 1999: Sorry Italy :( I wasn't planning to attack you, but the opportunity to unite the entire map against the strongest player on the board was too tempting to pass up. Being able to unite 4 players against 1 is a very attractive proposition, and being blocked in by Britain and Poland meant that only avenue of expansion, was through your territory. Anyway, once again, my apologies Italy. |
|
Spring, 1999: Also, Spain may want to remember his place given that I now block the only route out of Spain, and he would be unable to expand without my consent.
Spring, 1999: No hard feelings Germany. I knew when you didn't answer that something was up. I'm not bitter, but Spain's begging is pathetic and sickens me.
Spring, 2000: Wow!!! Look at all them firecrackers in and around the Mediterranean. Our we being attacked by terrorists or something? Where might I buy some popcorn?
Spring, 2000: yeah, and all you can do for the rest of the game is just sit back.....you are pathetic!
Spring, 2000: I know - it's sad - I tried to buy myself a personality but I hadn't realised that they nolonger accept passetas and for some reason no one want to take the few euros I've got - something about the way the colour bleeds off the banknotes when they get wet makes people suspicious.
Autumn, 2001: You know, those Italians holding out in Moldavia are a ferocious bunch. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the last territory flying Italy's colours - they might even make it to the end game.
Spring, 2002: Greetings all. Spain will be unavailable from noon Friday (Eastern Standard Time) through 9 PM Saturday. I've entered my orders but I've not pressed READY in order to profit from the maximum allotment of time. Have a great weekend. Cheers! |
|
Autumn, 2002: good bye everyone
Autumn, 2003: Whew. That was an intense spring!
Autumn, 2003: GameMaster: Yaniv was banned: multi/meta/no reply. The time until the next phase has been extended by one phase length to give an opportunity to replace the player. Remember to finalize your orders if you don't want to wait, so the game isn't held up unnecessarily! |
|
Spring, 2004: Hey guys, just an idea. Once Britain is removed, how would you all like to call it a draw? We've all played a good game, stalemated each other, and removed the competition. We're now pretty evenly matched, and this will get dragged out into a long game. So what do you all think? Russia and Ukraine, if you stop attacking me for one year, I can have Britain eliminated in short order. |
|
Spring, 2004: I was banned. I pleaded my case because I ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY DO NOT METAGAME AND DO NOT CHEAT. And I've been re-instated. I have to tell you though that it leaves an unpleasant taste in one's mouth. I used to think that everyone that was banned was a downright cheater and couldn't understand why. Now I'm less sure.
Spring, 2004: ;~; | |
Spring, 2004: why is it so hard for people just to act like an adult and play a funny game. All this problems with meta gamers all the time.
Spring, 2004: gib dots plox
Spring, 2004: What does "gib dots plox" mean?
Autumn, 2004: I wonder if there is any oil under here?
Autumn, 2004: Hey CA - you were a good man - songs will be sung of your valour in battle (though we will still make fund about the fact that you drink warm beer).
Spring, 2006: Greetings all - I risk being unreachable for the next 30 hours or so. I will endeavour to check in but I can offer no guarantees. Have a great weekend.
Spring, 2008: Hey all. So I'm going away tomorrow for 8 days, during which I will likely be unable to enter moves, and was thus wondering if we could pause the game for a week? I know this is a big ask, but would be eternally grateful to everyone if they agreed to this.
Spring, 2008: Of course, no problem.
Spring, 2008: Agreed. It'd probably help me out too.
Spring, 2008: Thank you :)
Spring, 2008: When everyone is ready we could vote unpause?
Spring, 2008: Welcome back! How was your adventure in the real world?
Spring, 2008: Haha it wasnt me who asked for a pause...however I had a very nice week, thank you :)
Spring, 2008: Hey all :) I'm back and managed to avoid freezing to death in Tasmania. Anyway, shall we get back to business? |
|
Spring, 2008: I thought it was summer in the southern hemisphere - how far south is Tasmania anyway?
Spring, 2008: Too far south. Basically, I walked through 4 days of rain + mud, and 2 days of snow + mud. And yes, it is summer down here, but Tasmania is a weird place where the weather does not abide by the normal rules :P
Autumn, 2008: Have you ever read (I) the "isles of oceania"; (ll) "a sunburnt country". Both are fantastic books about Australia - the first describes Tasmania exactly like you do.
Spring, 2010: At the risk of sounding like one who is running out of options, I think a draw makes sense at this point.
Spring, 2010: I think we all deserve it. It was a nice game so far. I'm in.
Autumn, 2011: Hi all - I've entered orders but I do not intend to press READY because I will be hard to reach over the coming days so by not pressing READY I'm simply buying myself some time. Best of the season to all.
Autumn, 2012: Happy Christmas everybody! With the Christmas mood on my mind I was hoping we all could consider to end this highly interesting game together. Let peace rule over Europe |
|
Autumn, 2012: I just realized how long this game has been going. We just finished our 18th game year!
Autumn, 2012: exactly. If thats not worth a draw or at least survival...
My congratulations to the three who will share the cake. |
